Editorial policy

How Weeknight Protein writes, edits, checks, and corrects its recipes.

Last updated

Built for real weeknights

We focus on familiar US supermarket ingredients, approachable methods, protein-forward meals, and cooking times that make sense after a busy day. We would rather publish a small number of recipes we can stand behind than a large number we cannot.

How recipes are written

Recipes here are drafted with AI assistance and then edited by the site’s editors before publishing. There are no invented author personas: every recipe carries the same Weeknight Protein byline, because that is who is accountable for it.

Editing is not a formality. Before a recipe goes up we check ingredient amounts against the number of servings, pan and dish sizes against the volume of food, cooking times and temperatures against the cut and thickness specified, allergen labelling against the ingredient list, and every claim in the surrounding text. Where a recipe states an estimated protein figure, the page links to the data source behind it.

What “reviewed” does and does not mean

This is an editorial review, not a kitchen test. We do not describe a recipe as kitchen-tested unless a person has cooked it exactly as written, and no recipe on the site currently carries that description. When that changes, the recipe will say so on the page rather than in a general claim here.

Practical guidance in the surrounding text — browning cues, doneness temperatures, make-ahead and storage advice, common failure modes — is standard cooking knowledge, checked against published food-safety guidance from the USDA where temperatures are involved.

What to know before cooking

Results vary with ingredients, equipment, substitutions, and technique. Cooking times are guidance; a thermometer is the authority. We do not promise medical benefits, and we do not publish precise nutrition estimates without an identified data source.

Publishing and unpublishing

We remove recipes as readily as we add them. Pages that do not offer enough to be worth a reader’s time are taken down rather than left up for traffic.

Where a page carries an affiliate link to an ingredient or a piece of equipment, it discloses that above the links, and we may earn a commission. Those relationships never influence which recipes we publish, which ingredients they use, or how we describe them. Details are in our disclaimer.
